As we watch

The more and more I study people the more and more I notice.  I discover new things about who we are and how we are programmed to follow.

Often times we’re afraid to speak, speak out, speak up for anything that may spark controversy or a negative response from the masses. It’s as if we’re still in high school. Are we still fitting in to be popular?  We are afraid to speak up, to stand up to share our dreams, our passions, our commitments. Or is it that we don’t have any? Are we so fickle that we have no aim, no purpose?

I am concerned that we are becoming spineless, aloof and afraid of our own shadows. As we watch murders by police. As we watch women being raped. As we watch black on black crime be the slogan of every hypocrite racist and black “self-hated”. As we watch children be mistreated, mis-educated and thrown away. As we watch the prison industrial system destroy families and communities and then wonder where our fathers went. As we watch victims of tragedies be belittled and forgotten.

The more and more I study people the more and more I notice. I discover new things about who we are and how we are programmed to follow.

As we watch gunmen massacre crowds of people and we do nothing. As we watch the NRA ready us for an all-out race war. As we watch banks steal from the poor. As we watch the pharmaceutical industry poison us through our foods, rip us off with the high cost of prescriptions drugs and we do nothing. As we watch media exploit us manipulating our minds with the lies and a false sense of reality. As we watch murderers become acquitted. As we watch protests against injustice become injustice. As we watch rape become, boys will be boys. As we watch gay become straight and as we watch the government become the fucking Godfather.

Will someone, anyone please stand up? Can we question some shit? Is it ok to agree or not agree on some shit? Can we truly be unafraid to speak and live freely?

But yet I know we are not created that way.
